Human Rights

The first human rights charter did not exists until the early 1905s due to world war two, but the concept of human rights can be traced right back to 500 BC to the Persian empire and to king Cyrus. He not only implemented the system of what much of modern law and punishment runs on but pushed the concept that no man is greater then the next and he did this though capturing Babylon and freeing the jews. He not only stop slavery but paired every working man in his kingdom and punished torture. The tiny cylinder found in Iran showed a statement but King Cyrus which he claimed to have made peace with the people and paid homage to their gods. The Shah who was in the power when this find was uncovered claimed it to be the 'first human rights charter' due to his track record with torture and killing this was a lie. However the UN have stated that King Cyrus upheld the modern equivalent of human right in his time and did more then any other man since then till the 1950s to give equal rights.

The human rights charter is proberly the most important declaration of rights since the history of man but it has not always been upheld and this is what artist have used to highlight certain events or people who denied people there basic right for no reason. Look at Damien Hirst who was in the YBA his main choice of topic is death and the right to death has still been debated for a long time. Euthanasia may be illegeal in this country but others counties in Europe have allowed euthanasia.

Since this was the first universal declaration i feel that it's important to at lest acknowledge how they came to form over the UN and why even today millions are denied the basic rights.
